Answers from Dr. Kaiser

Question:

My question involves my sinuses. When the weather gets colder, I seem to get these semi-colds. My sinuses start to fill and the worst part is is that my energy just takes a nose dive. What's going on and how can I speed up the recovery process? Every doc seems to shrug his/her shoulders and says to wait out. Thank you so much for your help. The stress of this unending problem really gets to me.

Dr. Kaiser replies:

Chronic sinusitis is a very frustrating problem to deal with. However,
there are a few common sense measures that might help you obtain
relief.

First, keep yourself very well hydrated with water and hot beverages.

Next, purchase an over the counter saline spray from the pharmacy and give your nose a few sprays several times a day to flush out unwanted dust and bacteria.

Then, if necessary, consider using a daily steroid nasal spray to keep inflammation to a minimum.

Finally, I have noticed a very clear association between deep neck tension and frequent sinus infections. You may want to purchase a microwavable neck warmer, do regular stretching exercises, and/or trade neck massages with some of your friends.
