Answers from Dr. Kaiser Question: You have been a big help to my health for 8 years now. I have seen you lecture in NYC five times and in your lectures, you often discuss how to treat intestinal parasites, So I asked my doctor to test me and, wouldn't you know, I have them. I then asked him to put me on the treatment protocol you recommend on the home page of your website
(www.jonkaiser.com) but the medication "Iodoquinol" is not made or sold in NYC anymore. Is there another medication you recommend to substitute for this? Dr. Kaiser replies: Thanks for your question and kind words. I have also run into recent difficulty finding Iodoquinol for my patients in San Francisco and other cities in the U.S. My solution has been to substitute "Metronidazole 500 mg" for each dose of "Iodoquinol 650 mg" in my previous protocol. This seems to be just as effective at clearing the gut of parasites however, the side effects of Metronidazole (also known as Flagyl) are more bothersome and can include headaches, metallic taste in mouth, dizziness, and a very bad reaction if any alcohol is consumed during the treatment period. I also recommend that anyone who is treated for intestinal parasites retest for them one month after the treatment is finished to make sure that they have been completely eradicated.
