Question:

I have just started taking AGENERASE and understand that it
provides a very high dose of VITAMIN E. I am a user of the Integrative Health Consulting Vitamin's Double Strength packets. Does this provide too much Vitamin E? I am also taking OMEGA 3/6/9 Oils - any difficulties? (I also have high blood pressure and I am taking Toprol.)

Thank you very much for your important question regarding the use of Agenerase (amprenavir). This protease inhibitor contains 109 units of Vitamin E per capsule as an antioxidant/stabilizer for the medication. The recommended dosage of Amprenavir is 8 capsules 2x/day (total Vitamin E is 1744 units) or 4 capsules 2x/day(total Vitamin E is 872 units) if taken along with the antiviral medication Norvir (ritonovir). It is recommended by the manufacturer that patients taking Amprenavir do not take any supplemental Vitamin E.

Though the RDA for Vitamin E is only 30 units per day, most people can take between 400 and 800 units without any problem. The side effects of excessive Vitamin E intake can include high blood pressure and headaches.

There is a new formulation of Amprenavir about to be released. I am not certain, but I believe this new formulation will not include any Vitamin E in the capsules.
