Answers from Dr. Kaiser Question: I have been HIV(+) positive for 15 yrs. Four years ago I started taking Combivir and Viramune. I am undetectable and have a CD4 count above 450. My side effects are high cholesterol and tingling and numbness in my hands at night. Any suggestions? I just started your vitamins today.Dr. Kaiser replies: The medications
that you are currently taking do not have high cholesterol and peripheral
neuropathy as common side effects. That means that your high
cholesterol should respond well to a program of a low-carb/low-fat
diet and a regular exercise program. It is also possible that,
when you get your CD4 count above 500 cells for at least one year,
you may be able to go on a treatment interruption and take a break
from the drugs for a while. |
