Dear Friends,
The following situation commonly occurs in my medical practice. A person consults with me for a complex medical problem and, after the problem improves, they continue as my patient to work on promoting longevity and healthy aging.
The many HIV/AIDS patients I have been caring for over the past twenty years are a good example. Since they’ve been following my immune strengthening program, their immune systems are in great shape. Since improving their immune system is no longer the main focus, our goal has evolved to protecting them against heart disease, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.
Patients with digestive disorders, chronic fatigue syndrome, Lyme disease or fibromyalgia are other examples. As a person's original condition improves, our focus shifts to healthy aging and promoting longevity.
My definition of “healthy aging” is when all of the body’s organs age at the same rate.
If no single organ wears out prematurely, such as might occur with a heart attack or stroke, then does it really really matter if you live to age 92 or 95? In my experience, the best goal is maintaining excellent health throughout a long life, along with an absence of suffering during one's final month's or years.
During my over thirty years of practicing medicine, I’ve learned there are several important keys to longevity and healthy aging. By embracing these keys, I believe you will have the best chance of supporting your long-term health and living a long, healthy life!
The 7 Keys to Longevity & Healthy Aging are:
1. Eating a Healthy Diet
2. Supporting Your Mitochondria
3. Aerobic Exercise
4. Resistance Exercise
5. Supporting Gut Health
6. Social Engagement
7. Deep Restorative Sleep
